EFCC Bans Fani-Kayode, Former FCT Minister From Receiving Visitors And Making Calls

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has placed a ban on all visits to suspects and inmates.
The suspects and inmates have also been banned from making phone calls to their lawyers, family members and loved ones, Vanguard reports.

Some of those affected by the ban are former minister of the Federal Territory Administration (FCTA) Senator Bala Mohammed and former spokesperson to ex- president Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode.

This followed the release of former minister of state for defence, Musiliu Obanikoro and former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati.

The order was confirmed by EFCC sources who said it was contained in a circular from the acting chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu.

A source said it was due to the number of solidarity visits that many of the politicians in custody, including Bala Mohammed and Femi Fani-Kayode, were receiving.

“This has resulted in untold hardship amongst all those in EFCC custody in Abuja,” the source said.

Since Monday this week, many politicians and prominent Nigerians have been paying solidarity visits to Mohammed, Fani-Kayode, Obanikoro and Abati.

The deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu was the first to pay a visit to the detainees on October 27.

On Monday, October 31, Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese was at the EFCC Headquarters where he prayed for four detainees.

The national chairman of the caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, led other members of his executive committee on a solidarity visit to the cell of the EFCC on Wednesday, November 2.
